February 9, 2009 10:00 am by: Andrew Uhler

Will Sheff is the frontman for Austin’s own Okkervil River. Okkervil River, which was formed in 1998, has released five albums and garnered much national attention. On top of being an accomplished singer and songwriter, Will Sheff plays the guitar, piano, banjo, and harmonica. Here he talks about The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion by The Incredible String Band, “a very, very silly psychedelic folk band.” The 5000 Spirits… was their sophomore album, released in 1967, which according to Sheff was “named by Paul McCartney as his favorite album of the year.” Listen to Will Sheff talk about why he loves this album and how it has influenced the music he creates.
