The Pretenders Play This Sunday at Waller Creek Amphitheater

The original line-up of The Pretenders released their debut album in 1980 – all out, in-your-face, straight-up groundbreaking music. The riffs tore into the eardrum. There was actually no pretense whatsoever from this band called The Pretenders. One listen, and you knew it was no nonsense with songwriter and vocalist/guitarist Chrissie Hynde.

In 2009, Hynde remains a powerful force with a powerful voice on the latest from The Pretenders, Break Up the Concrete, unapologetic but unafraid to reveal a compassionate, vulnerable side through her songwriting.

This Sunday night will be a monumental occasion. That’s when The Pretenders will be in town for a show at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater. Opening are Nashville garage-rock monsters American Bang. Looks like heaping doses of rock all around.

And Chrissie…you rock best of all.
