Texas Peanut Plant Closed

February 10, 2009 12:34 pm by: Crystal Chavez

Peanut Corporation of America had already closed a plant in Georgia, identified as the source of the national outbreak.

The Texas Department of State Health Services said in a news release that private lab tests from the Plainview plant showed the “possible presence” of salmonella in some products. The department said it does not appear any of the peanut products from the Plainview plant have reached consumers.

The Associated Press reported the Texas plant operated unlicensed and uninspected for several years. DSHS said it’s developing criteria the company has to meet before it can continue production.
