Ruthie Foster: ‘Truth!’

Back in the early to mid-nineties, Ruthie Foster was fresh out of the U.S. Navy, living in New York under contract with Atlantic Records. But her family drew her back to her native Texas and the deal with Atlantic fizzled (she says they were looking for a hybrid of Anita Baker and Tracy Chapman…not her)

So she came to Austin and over the past decade or so, she’s amassed scores of fans here in town and elsewhere. And with 2007′s The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster, the superlatives about the 5′ 1″ songstress started flowing.

Her latest effort, The Truth According to Ruthie Foster, hits record stores today. And the acclaim is sure to follow.

Today’s song of the day is a tune from the new LP. It’s called ‘Truth!’
