Preschoolers Play at the Texas Capitol
A surprising sound filled the rotunda of the Texas Capitol Tuesday, February 17. Instead of the familiar clicking of dress shoes, children’s voices echoed down the hallway.
The State’s program enrolls about half of all preschoolers in Texas. Supporters want to upgrade about a third of those covered to a full day program. Working parents want to pick up their kids after work – instead of after lunch. And educators say that youngsters need more time in the classroom. The program needs public funding, and supporters hope lawmakers will be generous.
The bill is getting nods from both republicans and democrats.
