JJ Grey: “Higher You Climb”

February 10, 2009 5:00 am by: Andrew Uhler

JJ Grey grew up just outside of Jacksonville, Florida, listening to artists like Muddy Waters, Sly Stone and Dr. John. His own style is something of an amalgam of country, soul and folk – in the tradition of the great storytellers of American music.

Grey and his band Mofro were in town last week for a sold-out gig at Antone’s. The frontman was kind enough to drop by KUT’s studio 1A to perform some tunes (sans Mofro) from his brand new album, Orange Blossoms.

This tune is off the new album. It’s called ‘Higher You Climb.’
