Gov. Perry Requests Stimulus Money

February 19, 2009 6:08 am by: Crystal Chavez

In a letter to President Barack Obama, Governor Perry formally requested Texas’ share of the money.

Governor Perry said, “I remain opposed to using these funds to expand existing government programs, burdening the state with ongoing expenditures long after the funding has dried up.”

The governor favors using the money for one-time expenses such as hurricane reconstruction. Its estimated Texas could receive between $16 to $18 billion in stimulus funds.
