In this episode of On The Record, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top talks about Girls Go Wild, The Fabulous Thunderbirds’ 1979 debut album. Houston native Billy Gibbons is the guitarist and lead vocalist for ZZ Top and also composed many of the band’s classic songs. Here he gives insight into one of his great influences: Jimmie Vaughan of The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Jimmie Vaughan, Stevie Ray’s older brother, is a Texas blues guitarist and singer who got his start playing at Austin bars in the ’60s. Billy Gibbons talks about Vaughan’s playing and the guitar licks that hooked him on Girls Go Wild.
