January 11, 2009 6:42 pm by: KUT Staff

Carole Keeton Strayhorn will formally announce her run for Austin mayor Monday, January 12 at a company called BancVue in Austin.

Strayhorn filed paperwork in November to raise money for an election but never made her candidacy official.

She joins the race for Austin mayor with Austin City Council Member Brewster McCracken who announced his campaign in December.

There are efforts to convince Council Member Lee Leffingwell to join the race although his current seat on council will need to filled if he does so. There are also rumors that former Texas Monthly publisher Mike Levy is eyeing the Austin Mayor seat. But neither men have made any announcements for candidacy.
