Renowned Burn Hospital Closing
The Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston is closing. The hospital is internationally known for its burn unit. Hospital officials say they can’t afford to operate because of Hurricane Ike damages and the economy. The endowment that funds the Shriners Hospitals in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is down $3 billion. Officials say the hospital could reopen in the future but they didn’t give a specific timeline.
