North Mississippi Allstars Play Two Shows This Week at Antone’s
When Southern madmen trio The North Mississippi Allstars launch into their set and let loose, you can hear their influences loud and clear. These gentlemen were schooled in music by juke joints, barbeques, and all the legendary country blues greats that played before they were even born.
Guitarist Luther Dickinson, drummer Cody Dickinson, and bassist Chris Chew got their band together in 1996. They were still watching and learning from the best of the very best, like Otha Turner and David “Junior” Kimbrough, paying close attention to all the musical traditions being handed down to the younger generations. NMA became part of the country blues legacy.
The Allstars have not just one, but two shows lined up this week, one on Friday night and the other on Saturday night, at Antone’s, 213 W. 5th St. Opening the show is Mississippi blues band The Hill Country Revue. Doors open at 8 p.m. both nights, and the music begins at 9 p.m.
You best be ready to get down ‘n’ dirty.
