New Online Charity Service
Jerry Strickland is the communications director in the office of the Texas Attorney General. He says “this new online resource is a way for individuals who are giving to charities and non profits to have some confidence that the money they are giving is used wisely, there are a lot of charities and non- profits not only soliciting money, but are really in need of money because of these hard economic times, as people are giving money and opening up their hearts and wallets they need to make an informed decision.” Only charities that receive more than 100-thousand dollars in donations and have assets totaling more than 250-thousand dollars will be in the database. The information will include the charity’s IRS disclosure of how the charity compensates executives and programs. Kerri Qunell is with the Capital Area Food Bank. An organization large enough to be included on this new site. She says the food bank already posts their IRS form online at their website and supports all efforts that lends to better transparency. She adds “we hope that when people look to give to a charitable organization that they look for more information that can be found on a website, their not just looking at a nine ninety or the percentage that is going to programs vs. administrative costs. We hope they visit the non profit and the clients that they are serving will get to know the clinets they are serving before they decide where to give their hard earn dollars.”
