MLK Day 2009
City of Austin offices will be closed for MLK Day. Recreation centers and public libraries will also be closed. Trash will be picked as usual up for Pay as You Throw customers. The MLK Community March kicks off at 9 a.m. at the MLK statute on the University of Texas campus. People will then march to the Capitol, and then to Huston-Tillotson University for a festival.
Some streets will be closed for the march starting at 7 a.m. including:
East 11th Street from Congress Avenue to Chalmers Avenue.
Congress Avenue from East MLK Jr. Boulevard to East 15th Street.
Speedway from West 24th Street to East 21st Street.
East 21st Street from Speedway to San Jacinto Boulevard.
San Jacinto Boulevard from East 21st Street to East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from San Jacinto Boulevard to Congress Avenue.
Chalmers Avenue from East 11th Street to East 8th Street.
Streets will open as the march passes. Chalmers will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the March and festival. Click here for a map.
