January 12, 2009: Cedric Burnside & Lightnin’ Malcolm
Drummer Cedric Burnside and guitarist Lightnin’ Malcolm are a ‘2 Man Wrecking Crew,’ and the album of the same name is a rowdy set of lowdown countrified blues from the pair’s home in the rugged Holly Springs National Forest of Mississippi. Cedric’s grandfather and blues legend R.L. Burnside passed away in 2005, receiving little attention until the early ‘90s underground punk blues scene took notice of him. Cedric carries on the family tradition, performing with greats Junior Kimbrough, T-Model Ford, Big Jack Johnson and Cedell Davis among others.
