James McMurtry: “Terry”
James McMurtry‘s dad, the famed Texas novelist Larry McMurtry, gave his son his first guitar when he was seven. But it wasn’t until the late eighties, when John Mellencamp (who happened to be working on a movie written by Larry) heard James and helped produce his 1989 debut LP, Too Long in the Wasteland.
James dropped by KUT last week and brought some of those old tunes with him. This song, called ‘Terry’, appeared on that debut album. It showcases McMurtry’s seemingly innate storytelling ability.
