Bon Iver: “Blood Bank”

January 21, 2009 5:00 am by: Andrew Uhler

Bon Iver is the stage name of Justin Vernon, a Wisconsin native who, along with bands like Fleet Foxes and Iron & Wine, has sparked a trend in indie rock toward a woodsier (perhaps bearded), more traditional sound.

Riding the success of his breakout debut, For Emma, Forever Ago, Vernon has put together a four-song EP, called Blood Bank, which hit stores yesterday. The sound is reminiscent of Vernon’s earlier work, though it might point to a bigger Bon Iver sound in the future.

But the intimacy of songs like the EP’s title track assure us that Vernon’s poetic song craft was not a one-time thing.
