Austin Group Seeks Converter Box Coupons

The non-profit wants to help clients cope with the transition from regular to digital television.

“Now, with the fact that the Federal Government is no longer funding the program, we know there are a lot of clients out there who still don’t have the coupons who can’t afford the full cost of a converter box,” spokesperson Sarah Andrews said.

The request is for converter box coupons that people have already obtained from the Federal Communications Commission but aren’t going to use. For many Meals on Wheels clients, the volunteer who delivers food may be the only direct human contact that person has.

“The true effect might not really be realized until after the switch happens, because so many of our clients aren’t even really aware that this transition is coming,” Andrews said.

She added that volunteers have helped their clients hook up the converters. To donate, visit the Meals on Wheels and More website.
