Are there “Recession-Proof” Jobs in Austin?
The number of layoffs and lost jobs in Austin has risen sharply over the past couple months. But some industries are still hiring for what could be seen as recession-proof jobs.
In May of last year, Austin made it to third place on the Forbes.com list of Recession-Proof Cities in the United States. Today, the economic outlook in the city is not as rosy anymore. The unemployment rate has grown to over 5%, and layoffs in the technology and construction industries have been increasing exponentially over the past few months. But some industries, such as nursing, are hiring.
