Sara Hickman Performs Tonight at The Cactus Cafe

December 16, 2008 6:00 am by: Laurie Gallardo

Even before her 1989 independent release Equal Scary People came out, Sara Hickman was already making a name for herself through her music, playing shows while still in high school, and getting her music out to enthusiastic crowds. It’s that dedication that’s led to a remarkable collection of adult and children’s albums throughout Hickman’s career, including 2004′s popular Big Kid to her remarkable and thought-provoking 2006 double-CD Motherlode.

In many ways, her heartfelt songwriting has also inspired her work with several nonprofits and charity organizations on a local, national and international level. She’s been awarded the Humana Women Helping Women award for her contributions to Safe Place, Habitat for Humanity, House the Homeless, the SPCA, and the Race for the Cure, among countless others.

You can see Hickman at her holiday show tonight at 8 p.m. at The Cactus Cafe in the Texas Union, 2247 Guadalupe.
