Rosie Flores: “Country Boy”

December 19, 2008 5:00 am by: Andrew Uhler

San Antonio born (and current Austin resident) Rosie Flores is widely credited as one of the first women of rockabilly and one of the seminal members of the alt-country movement.

She moved to California with her family when she was 12, and somehow the surf music of Southern California and the traditional conjunto and rock of San Antonio melded together to form a distinct style that Flores made her own.

And in June, Flores added to her already legendary career with a Peabody Award for her work on a ten-hour documentary on the history of rockabilly.

Not long ago, Flores dropped by KUT to record some tunes. And this one, called Country Boy, is classic Rosie, with a great groove and her signature guitar and vocals.
