The Eastern Sea at The Mohawk

December 1, 2008 11:26 am by: Peter Babb

There’s no shortage of youngsters in Austin. Most spend their time hunting for free booze and dance partners. But the boys and girl of the Eastern Sea channel that precocious energy into making music. For such a young band they aren’t afraid to tackle some seriously complex music. The variety and intricate layering of instrumentation in their songs conjures images of icebergs floating through the ocean with only the tips breaking the surface. Their songs are massive numbers but pleasantly restrained with plenty of room for the vocalists to paint a picture. I was lucky enough to catch the last few songs from their wonderful set at the Mohawk a couple of weeks ago. Here are two songs from that show. Enjoy.
