December 4, 2008: Larry Lange & Chicano Soul

December 4, 2008 2:07 pm by: Jay Trachtenberg

On November 11, 2008, San Antonio-based’60s Chicano Soul legend and Royal Jesters leader Dimas Garza passed away due to heart complications. Less than 24 hours prior, Garza’s final performance was captured live in KUT’s Studio 1A featuring bassist/vocalist Larry Lange, guitarist Grady Pinkerton and Rudy T Gonzales of the Reno Bops. Ruben Molina’s Chicano Soul: Recordings & History of an American Culture is the best book available on the genre. But you can hear the history live and in the moment with Lange, Garza, Rudy T and friends live from Studio 1A on Music with Jay Trachtenberg.
