Brendan James Plays Tonight at Stubb’s Indoor Venue
It was beyond exciting for Brendan James when Carly Simon was complimenting his voice and his songwriting. James’ manager had slipped a copy of his demo to Simon with fingers crossed, hoping something would happen. It did. James received an invitation to Simon’s home in Martha’s Vineyard to record a version of her Oscar-winning song “Let the River Run” for the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
Before then, James was schlepping away at a full-time job, while concentrating on his music every other chance he could get. This guy used to sneak into hotel ballrooms in Manhattan just to practice on their pianos. Now he’s touring in support of his debut release, The Day Is Brave.
The tour brings James to Austin tonight for a show on Stubb’s indoor stage, 801 Red River. Opening the show is Austin singer-songwriter Jonathan Clay.
