November 4, 2008: Freedy Johnston

November 4, 2008 2:45 pm by: Jay Trachtenberg

It might’ve been Elvis Costello’s My Aim is True that prompted Kansas-born singer/songwriter Freedy Johnston to immerse himself in the Lawrence, KS new wave scene of the time and eventually move to New York City to write, perform and record. Or maybe it was his love for both XTC and Neil Young that aided in his development. Either way, Johnston has grown into a significant treasure of song, spinning his witty and often poignant tales of characters unaware of their own demise. Hear Freedy Johnston live Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. on Music with Jay Trachtenberg before his set of shows at the Saxon Pub Wednesday night and Thursday night at Momo’s.
