November 27, 2008: Blind Boys of Alabama
The Blind Boys of Alabama first formed at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind in 1939, and nearly 70 years later the gospel group continues to tour nationally and internationally led by the soulful vocals of Jimmy Lee Carter. Winning a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album every year between 2002 and 2005, the boys were finally inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame last year. They’re joined by New Orleans luminaries Allen Toussaint, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Hot 8 Brass Band for a set of traditional-meets-contemporary sacred sounds on this year’s Down in New Orleans. Don’t miss a special Thanksgiving performance from the Blind Boys of Alabama live from Studio 1A.
