Lee Simmons Has CD Release Party Tonight at The Parish
Ever since the release of his debut full-length, Sometimes Fools, Lee Simmons has garnered critical praise for making folk pop with insightful lyrics, showing depth and sincerity beneath the surface. With his latest, Doniphan Nights, he’s taken things even further, venturing beyond the realm of solo performance into multiple layers of instruments and styles.
It took Simmons about seven months to complete Doniphan Nights, tracking most of the songs in his home studio. But the coolest part was getting fellow Austin artists to contribute their talents to his work, including Kullen Fuchs, who plays with Ian Moore, and John Leon, who plays with Roky Erickson and Austin band The Summer Wardrobe. It’s a cornucopia of collaborative efforts, and Simmons’ songwriting is the common thread pulling it all together.
Simmons recommends coming to his CD release party tonight at The Parish, 214 E. 6th St. Seriously. He mentioned that this will be the show you want to see, if you haven’t seen him perform yet accompanied by a full band. Cool deal.
