John Waite Performs Tonight at The Cactus Cafe
John Waite began his musical career as lead vocalist and bassist for The Babys in the late 1970s. Cool band. Cool hair. They broke up in 1980, but Waite continued pursuing his musical interests.
Waite released his debut solo album, Ignition, in 1982. However, it was a certain little gem on his next album, No Brakes, that sent him to the top of the charts. You know the one. You’re probably humming “Missing You” as you read this sentence. Just seeing the song title will put the tune in your head.
Waite has continued writing and performing over the years, and has contributed to a number of other musical projects, most notably with Allison Krauss (Krauss’ recent DVD release, A Hundred Miles or More, features her performing with Waite).
KUT 90.5 previously featured Waite in a live performance in Studio 1A. He returns to Austin for a show tonight at the Cactus Café, 2247 Guadalupe, in the Texas Union. This one is highly recommended; the man has an incredible voice. Check it.
