Fun Fun Fun Fest This Weekend at Waterloo Park
This fest is a feast. For the ears.
Everywhere you turn, as you make your way through Waterloo Park during this weekend’s Fun Fun Fun Fest, there’ll be an abundance of bands to blow your mind. Or at least make you dance around a bit.
The festival premiered in 2006, with a focus on presenting local and touring acts that were current, hip, significant now, whether mainstream media types were aware of it or not. It turned into an annual event that maintained a uniquely Austin vibe while getting some national attention – local favorites and visiting bands sharing the spotlight.
Some of this year’s headlining bands include The National, Bad Brains, Clipse, Dead Milkmen, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Austin artists include The Black Angels, Centro-matic, Til We’re Blue Or Destroy, Ume, The Ugly Beats, and Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears, to name but a handful. The Fun Fest website has a schedule for all four stages, Saturday and Sunday, and includes directions to Waterloo Park.
You can get tickets at the same website, or from End of An Ear at 2209 S. 1st St., Sound On Sound Records at 106 E. North Loop, Prototype Vintage at 1700 1/2 S. Congress, Waterloo Records, and all Front Gate ticket outlets.
As if you didn’t have enough to see this weekend, keep in mind that Austin loves its afterparties, and the Fun Fun Fun Fest is more than happy to oblige with some fabulous shows at The Mohawk on Red River. On Saturday after the fest, White Denim is having its CD release party on the outside stage. The bill includes Dead Confederate and Apollo Sunshine. Diagonals have a show on the inside stage the same night. Sunday evening, Girl In A Coma is the headling band on the outside stage. Bitch and The Exciting Conclusion and Mocktigers open the show. Everything gets started at 9 p.m. both nights.
You’re gonna be so exhausted after this…
