Freedy Johnston: “Bad Reputation”
Back in 1994, on the strength of his major label debut, This Perfect World, Freedy Johnston was named “Songwriter of the Year” in Rolling Stone Magazine.
Nowadays, Johnston splits his time between New York and Austin. And though his sound is most often compared to new wavers Elvis Costello and XTC, Johnston recently released a covers album called My Favorite Waste of Time, featuring selections from Tom Petty and Paul McCartney.
He dropped by KUT a few weeks ago to record some tunes. This one, called “Bad Reputation” was Johnston’s biggest hit, reaching #54 on the Billboard charts in 1994.
