Scrappy Jud Newcomb: “State of Distraction”

October 24, 2008 5:00 am by: Andrew Uhler

Scrappy Jud Newcomb is perpetually referred to as a ‘musician’s musician.’ His guitar work is sprinkled all over Austin, with appearances in Ian McLagan’s Bump Band as well as a regular gig at the Saxon Pub with The Resentments.

But his solo stuff is more self-conscious and thought provoking. On songs like, “State of Distraction,” which Newcomb recorded live right here at KUT last month, he adopts a dirtier, Rolling Stones circa-Let-It-Bleed-sounding vibe. It’s classic Austin roots-rock at its finest.
