Shearwater Plays Tonight at The Mohawk
There were rave reviews for the ethereal, unsettling art rock of Shearwater’s 2007 album, Palo Alto. It was their national debut, an eerily beautiful collection of pieces based loosely upon the life and death of artist Nico.
As one can imagine, the anticipation for their next release, Rook (2008), was already built to a fever pitch, and fans and critics alike have not been disappointed. It carries a similar haunted beauty, but obviously more evolved and sophisticated.
Shearwater is just about to embark upon a European tour in support of Rook. Before they do, they take to the outdoor stage tonight at The Mohawk, 912 Red River St. Starting the evening out will be performances by Baltimore indie duo Wye Oak and poppy goodness by Lawrence, Kansas band Hospital Ships. The doors open at 9 p.m., but many peeps like to enjoy The Mohawk’s happy hour, which today includes an early performance on the indoor stage by Adeline at 5:30 p.m. Go for it.
