Fiddler Ruby Jane Performs Saturday at Central Market North

August 15, 2008 6:00 am by: Laurie Gallardo

Fiddle player Ruby Jane is quickly becoming one of the most highly regarded performers in bluegrass and Americana music – all at age 13.

At age 8, Ruby Jane was granted an apprenticeship by the Mississippi Arts Commission with Charles T. Smith, one of the last great Mississippi old-time fiddlers. She played in several major competitions, and eventually had the opportunity to perform with artists like Marty Stuart and “the Queen of Bluegrass” herself, Rhonda Vincent. She’s also performed with Lyle Lovett, Asleep At the Wheel, and Willie Nelson.

She’s got a show this Saturday at the Central Market Cafe in Central Park, at 40th St. and N. Lamar. Get there early; the show begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
