Willie Dixon Birthday Bash Tonight at The Saxon Pub
He was a producer, a composer and a singer. He was a key player in the music of other great artists such as Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. The Chicago blues sound exists today because of innovative minds like his. The late Willie Dixon did it all.
Frankly, you don’t have to explain any of this to Omar Kent Dykes. He knows it. Tonight, Dykes and musician Steve James are gathering a group of like-minded artists to celebrate Willie Dixon’s birthday at The Saxon Pub, 1320 S. Lamar. The bill includes performances by Harry Bodine, Sarah Brown, Spencer Thomas, Rodney Craig, Jimi Lee, Michael Holt and many more. The party begins at 7 p.m.
A mere $10 gets you into this huge show, with proceeds benefitting Music For Literacy, a program organized by librarian Issa Medrano of Blackshear Elementary in East Austin. You can find out more by contacting the SIMS Foundation. It’s for a great cause, peeps.
