Pinetop Turns 95

July 10, 2008 12:19 pm by: Peter Babb

Pinetop Perkins celebrated his 95th birthday last week with a performance at Antones. Last month Pinetop released a new LP Pinetop Perkins and Friends with guest performances from the likes of Marcia Ball and B.B. King. He was also recently awarded a Grammy for his work on Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen: Live in Dallas. In his career Perkins has played with blues giants like Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, and Howlin’ Wolf. KUT’s Andy Uhler commemorates Pinetop’s birthday by looking at his legacy of one of the great blues piano players.
