Church of The Friendly Ghost Presents Composer Chris Schlarb at SVT

July 29, 2008 6:00 am by: Laurie Gallardo

This is an exciting time for Church of the Friendly Ghost, a local organization that supports and brings exposure to creative, cutting-edge music by local, national and international artists. CoTFG just received a grant from the MetLife Arts Foundation, called “Meet the Composer,” which has made it possible to bring musician and composer Chris Schlarb to Austin for two performances at the Salvage Vanguard Theater, 2803 Manor Rd.

These performances may be the last few times Schlarb will perform work from Twilight and Ghost Stories, an album released through Asthmatic Kitty Records. Performances will be tonight and tomorrow night, with both shows beginning at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes a copy of the Twilight and Ghost Stories CD.

Schlarb will be accompanied by a 10-piece ensemble of local artists, organized by Nick Hennies of The Weird Weeds:

Bill Baird – guitar, voice

Steve Bernal – cello

Diane Cluck – guitar, voice

Chris Cogburn – percussion

Jon Doyle- reeds

Nick Hennies – vibraphone, voice

Alex Keller – electronics

Ken’s Last Ever Radio Extravaganza- electronics

Aaron Russell – guitar

Chris Schlarb – acoustic guitar, devices
