Joan of Arc Plays Tonight at The Mohawk

Yep. According to Polyvinyl, Joan of Arc has a 14-person lineup. There are strings and horns, and everything but the kitchen sink…unless they feel like playing that, too.

A little bit of family history: Brothers Tim and Mike Kinsella founded Cap’N Jazz. Then, after the band’s demise in 1995, it was time to explore a new direction – or at least have fun trying. Tim started an art rock collective called Joan of Arc a year later. Sure, it may have confused or irritated some of the more hardcore Cap’N Jazz fans, but it all came together quite nicely.

Over a decade later, Joan of Arc has a new album out, Boo Human, and a tour to go with it. See them tonight when they play at The Mohawk on Red River. Also on the bill are local bands Yellow Fever, and Single Frame.

There’s also a later show with more great music from Meryll, and Paper South. C’mon, stick around. You know you wanna.
