Artist Jennifer Balkan studied behavior neuroscience and sociology before becoming a full-time painter in 2002. She hasn’t left her academic past behind her completely, though; psychology and the human psyche are themes she returns to often in her paintings. Her new show, Hidden Meaning, is currently on display at the Wally Workman Gallery.

Where: Wally Workman Gallery, 1202 West 6th Street

When: Through May 28 (Gallery hours are Tuesday thru Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM, or by appointment.)
