Zell Miller hosts an old-school open mic poetry night.

Zell Miller started performing poetry at open-mic nights years ago in East Austin. Now, he’s trying to create a similar environment for today’s young poets. That’s why he’s hosting Speaking the Spoken,a night of open-mic poetry at the Vortex . He’s trying to make it an inclusive and comfortable environment, and the admission is dirt cheap – $2 for audience members, $1 for performers and/or high school students.
