Austin singer/songwriter Sam Baker tells stories rich in detail and real characters. Born in Itasca, Texas outside of Dallas, Baker came back to writing songs after writing short fiction. That explains why his new CD Mercy plays out more like a novella than a standard collection of songs. Hear why Gurf Morlix calls Sam Baker’s latest “one of my favorite albums of the last five years,” when Baker performed live October 20, 2007 on Folkways with Kevin Connor.
