Zap Mama Live – Thursday, September 13, 2007
Founded by Zaire native Marie Daulne, Zap Mama perform their own a cappella, afro-pop drenched world music, influenced heavily by Daulne and her family’s association with traditional pygmy music and onomatopoeic vocal techniques. Their 1993 debut Adventures in Afropea became the biggest selling non-comp album in the history of Luaka Bop Records. Latest recording, Supermoon continues the group’s unique bridge between African music and R&B.
Listen to her performance from Music with Jay Trachtenberg.
