Like a modern day Sam Cooke, Georgia singer Ryan Shaw started in the church as a member of various gospel groups before entering the world of secular music after finding work singing Motown hits from the 50s and 60s. His debut recording “This is Ryan Shaw” on Columbia is a smokin’ set of covers from Wilson Pickett, Bobby Womack and Jackie Wilson with a few stellar originals.
