Friends of McKinney Falls State Park is an all volunteer 501©(3) organization founded by a small group of park visitors who recognized the need to support this Austin treasure. As providing adequate funding for Texas State Parks continues to be a challenge for state leaders, citizens must work together at the grassroots level to support, maintain, and promote this site that reflects Texas’ unique heritage.

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Friends of McKinney Falls State Park is to support and complement the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department in conserving and enhancing the natural and cultural resources of McKinney Falls State Park and promoting enjoyment and appreciation of this Austin treasure by present and future generations.

Get Involved!

Share your love of the park by volunteering! Volunteering is a great way to make new friends and have a lot of fun too. Helping hands are always needed for a variety of projects.

Park Improvements:
Join KUT on April 28 as staff and listeners makeover the day-use picnic area. Future park improvement days will include tasks like mulching camping areas and trail maintenance.

Leadership:
Do you have a project or idea that would be perfect for the park? Join our Board of Directors or one of our committees as we work hand-in-hand with park leadership to improve and maintain Austin’s very own State Park. Our board meets the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the park’s Smith Visitors Center.

Cleanups:
One of the beautiful aspects of McKinney Falls is that both Onion Creek and Williamson Creek flow through the park. Due to the park’s urban setting, both of these creeks deposit trash in the park after heavy rains. Hold your own cleanup or join on of ours.

Landscaping:
Love gardening? Volunteers are needed to maintain and enhance the native plant flower beds at the park’s entrance and the Smith Visitors Center.

Docent:
Do you want to learn more about the park and share that knowledge with others? Docents who have a love of history, geology, or flora and fauna are needed to lead hikes or present programs to school groups on weekdays or to the public on weekends.

Special Events:
Help at one of our special events, like The Family Fishing Celebration on June 16—or work with us to develop new special events that introduce people to the park. The Family Fishing Celebration helps to get kids outdoors in the park to learn all about fishing. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, monitoring the fishing activity, and to become Junior Angler Instructors to teach kids the basics of fishing.

Support:
Become an official Friends member and/or make a donation. Annual membership dues provide funds to help conserve, protect, and Keep this natural treasure accessible. Become a member and help assure that McKinney Falls State Park will continue to provide exciting outdoor recreation and stewardship of the state’s precious natural and cultural resources for generations to come.
