Nakia Live from Studio 1A

February 14, 2007 1:01 pm by: Jay Trachtenberg

Nakia

Austin’s Nakia grew up in the shadow of 3614 Jackson Highway, the original home of the Muscle Shoals sound, where he picked up the Southern-soul pouring through the veins of singers like Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, and Wilson Pickett. His own brand of what he calls “Appalachian soul” is all over his new debut EP Playing the Cards. Nakia and his Southern Cousins, featuring Barry “Frosty” Smith and Matt Hubbard, serenaded listeners of Music with Jay Trachtenberg on Valentine’s Day.
