Guitar Shorty Performed Live

November 8, 2006 2:05 pm by: Jay Trachtenberg

Born David Kearney in Houston, TX, Guitar Shorty was already gigging steadily at the age of 17 before cutting his debut single “You Don’t Treat Me Right” in 1957 under Willie Dixon’s direction. Influenced by the wild antics of Guitar Slim, Shorty’s stage gymnastics and flamboyant antics accompany his savagely ripping guitar licks. He played some songs off his CD “We The People” on Music with Jay Trachtenberg before he rolled and tumbled across the stage of the Continental Club on a bill with Detroit soul machine Andre Williams.
