David Chao and Central Time
Pianist David Chao leads the Austin-based Central Time jazz collective. Chao began studying classical piano at the age of seven, then stopped playing entirely to earn a doctorate in theoretical particle physics while publishing papers at various institutions of higher education. Back to the jazz drawing board, Chao invites original compositions and not-so-straight-ahead jazz as part of his group that features Jeremy Bell on sax, Brad Taylor on Bass and Kevin Witt on drums among a revolving door of Austin’s best jazz players.
