Calexico

September 15, 2006 12:00 pm by: John Aielli

The Tucson, AZ collective known as Calexico rose out of the desert from the musical invention of Joey Burns and John Convertino. Their exploration of Southwestern culture reveals an eclectic mix of Afro-Peruvian music, Portuguese fado, ‘50s and ‘60s jazz, country, spaghetti Westerns, surf music and a giant musical nod to origins south of the border. Calexico performs at the Austin City Limits Music Festival Saturday evening on the AT&T blue room stage. They performed live in Studio 1A for Eklektikos Friday at 10am with host John Aielli.
