August 11, 2006 12:05 pm by: John Aielli

Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen originally formed in 1967 in Ann Arbor, MI. The group then relocated to San Francisco a year later with only 3 members in tow, but their 1971 debut album Lost in the Ozone features a full line-up including guitarist Bill Kirchen, who now resides in Austin. 1974s Live from Deep in the Heart of Texas was recorded at the Armadillo World Headquarters and is considered by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest 100 albums of all time. George Frayne as Commander Cody and his band performed live in Studio 1A on Eklektikos Friday at noon.
