Rodney Crowell

March 17, 2006 11:51 am by: John Aielli

Rodney Crowell was born in Houston, TX but moved to Nashville in his early twenties and met Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark. It wasn’t until Jerry Reed heard one of his acoustic sets that Crowell’s career began to blossom. Since 1975, Crowell has written and performed hits for Emmylou Harris, ex-wife Rosanne Cash, the Oak Ridge Boys, Crystal Gayle, Bob Seger and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. His own first hit came in 1980 with the Top 40 pop crossover Ashes by Now, and in ‘88 he finally broke through with Diamonds and Dirt, a recording complete with five number one singles. 2005’s social-political The Outsider is Crowell’s latest.
