Dengue Fever

March 15, 2006 11:54 am by: John Aielli

During a 1997 trip to Cambodia, organist Ethan Holtzman contracted a disease transmitted via mosquito, hence the name of this 60’s-era style Cambodian rock band from Los Angeles. Inspired by cheap cassettes and all of the Cambodian rock he could get his hands on, Holtzman and brother Zac began assembling a group of musicians and hit clubs in the Little Phnom Penh area of Long Beach, CA looking for a singer. They found onetime Cambodian pop star Chhom Nimol and the group, Dengue Fever was complete. Their albums blend Cambodian covers, several originals and Ethiopian jazz spice.
