Since 1987, AIDS Services of Austin (ASA) has responded to the HIV/AIDS needs of Austin and Central Texas by providing social services and dental care for HIV+ people and prevention programs to reduce the spread of the disease.
ASA has always relied on a large family of volunteers. Most activities take place Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at ASA’s offices, 7215 Cameron Road. In addition, fundraising events like AIDS Walk Austin are largely accomplished by volunteers and include evening and weekend opportunities.
Volunteers with a wide range of skills and interests are needed. Energetic individuals who like working with others might enjoy ASA’s Food Pantry. Data entry, document creation and administrative support are largely done by volunteers; applications are the usual ones – Word, Publisher, Access, and LotusNotes. “Handy-types” can assist with projects around the facility. ASA does appreciate a minimum six month commitment, but some volunteers have been with us for almost 20 years!
A volunteer orientation is offered monthly. Check online for specifics. No RSVP is required.
